This work was created during the period of working from home due to the COVID-19 measures. During this time, it was the smaller things that caught my attention, such as the things I saw through my window. But it was especially the sounds around me that started to seem more prominent.
I began documenting all these sounds by recording them and illustrating them as I imagined them in my mind. I created visual patterns of all the sounds I heard. Eventually, a collection of patterns emerged, which I presented together on the Hooglandse Kerkgracht in Leiden during the outdoor exhibition 'Please Don’t Touch' by ROEM in collaboration with Museum De Lakenhal. The combined visualizations have an intense effect, representing what this time was like for me.
For this work, I created an audio collage of all the recordings, which can be listened to alongside the piece.
